I had a comment in my last blog from a poker player wondering what the secret was for me not tilting as much, that I got from Antonio Esfandiari. The secret is low and behold “A RUBBER BAND”. I was listening to a podcast on Esfandiari and red an article how he wasn’t at his best playing poker, he was comfortable partying and such and wasn’t focused on poker at all. He was tilting away tournaments and just didn’t care really about his job. He was not paying attention to the table, playing on his cell phone and such. So before he entered the WSOP he hired a life coach, to get back into poker and his job. The life coach gave him a couple tips and took away his cell phone when he went to tournaments. One of the things he gave him was a rubber band to put around his wrist. Now what this rubber band did was whenever Esfandiari got out of his poker zone like tilting, getting distracted and wasn’t playing his “A” game he would snap that rubber band. When he wasn’t focused “SNAP”… he would then realize he wasn’t in the right poker mind he was getting distracted. He would go take a quick walk or whatever to re-freshen his mind and get back into the game again. He gets tilted “SNAP… he would do what he needed to do to get un-tilted and back into the action playing “A” game poker.
So what the rubber band did is snapped him back into the poker mindset. When his head clouded up with anger and tilt… “SNAP” he would snap the rubber band. Then he would realize he is not at his best and fixed the problem before it got worse. Its mostly another way on how to stay focused on poker and not getting distracted while playing. There is many things you can use this rubber band trick for. Getting distracted by a movie”SNAP”… fix that problem and so on. There’s the Esfandiari secret.
