Learning To Avoid Trouble

tomas-blogSo I think, I finally have something to write for my blog. We had a coaching session with Marios earlier tonight. That was the first poker coaching I’ve ever received, so nothing to compare with, but judging by how tired I felt after it, I think it was a great session :-)

Marios pointed out a few things in my game, and now after having some rest and a couple hundred of hands at the tables, I guess I can prioritize what’s the most important to learn in the nearest future.

The absolute hit was about me too willingly playing dominated hands. Getting into the raised pot preflop with stuff like QT, even against 70/34 guy, even in position, isn’t nearly as good as I used to (consciously or not :-) ) imagine. I’m not sure I can say much more on this right now, but it’s clearly the number one thing to fix.

The other accurate note was that I get into drawing hands without a position. Even though these situations don’t occur too often because of their nature, they are still extremely annoying and costly to play. I think, I now understand how drastically the value of suited connectors and similar hands changes in regard to position.

And then, finally, my wishful risking in marginal situations didn’t slip unnoticed either. Not that I consider it a huge leak, but still… Learning some discipline and reducing variance can only do good :-)

Clearly, there are way more things I’ve left to think about, but these three points mentioned above is what I consider to be the best trouble makers in my game at the moment. Now that I understand them, I’m proud to say – first step done! :-)
