So I think, I finally have something to write for my blog. We had a coaching session with Marios earlier tonight. That was the first poker coaching I’ve ever received, so nothing to compare with, but judging by how tired I felt after it, I think it was a great session
Marios pointed out a few things in my game, and now after having some rest and a couple hundred of hands at the tables, I guess I can prioritize what’s the most important to learn in the nearest future.
The absolute hit was about me too willingly playing dominated hands. Getting into the raised pot preflop with stuff like QT, even against 70/34 guy, even in position, isn’t nearly as good as I used to (consciously or not
) imagine. I’m not sure I can say much more on this right now, but it’s clearly the number one thing to fix.
The other accurate note was that I get into drawing hands without a position. Even though these situations don’t occur too often because of their nature, they are still extremely annoying and costly to play. I think, I now understand how drastically the value of suited connectors and similar hands changes in regard to position.
And then, finally, my wishful risking in marginal situations didn’t slip unnoticed either. Not that I consider it a huge leak, but still… Learning some discipline and reducing variance can only do good
Clearly, there are way more things I’ve left to think about, but these three points mentioned above is what I consider to be the best trouble makers in my game at the moment. Now that I understand them, I’m proud to say – first step done!

I was sure you were tired! lol. It’s ok. I can see in your post that you focused on the basics of our session and I am sure that soon you will email me good news about your bankroll.
Next time we will talk about girls. It is more fun. Next session: “How to play against blonds in position”! :-O
I really like your first post.
Good luck Tomas!
Can’t wait for the next session! lol
Thanks
Marios is a champ Tomas. Stick with him and you will become a much better player. I always felt I had a very good foundation but the things that Marios has taught me in just a few sessions (and from my many emails
) have been so helpful.
Nice first post and I hope I have the chance to get to know you more from your blog posts, or even by playing a few hands with you
Thanks Jim. And yes, Marios is a champ. Most of the things about poker (or any game for that matter) can be learned in a lot of different ways, but the most valuable ones like attitude and other “meta” skills can only be obtained from a man like Marios. There’s so much more value in these sessions/emails than just fixing a couple of leaks, that it’s impossible to describe (well at least for a person with my writing skills lol).
Thank you for your comments guys!
It is a pleasure to me to work with you because you really want to be better players and I am sure you work hard on it.
Nah, Marios, we don’t work that hard, we just appreciate your work with us, I guess
When a person wants to learn something, it just doesn’t seem to be a hard work.
